At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we believe that changing the course of young lives we can in turn change our community's future. Your gift of time as a volunteer and donations help us make and sustain matches between Bigs/Mentors and Littles - and instantly make you a member of a life-changing movement that cares about kids. We appreciate all supporters, from donors to volunteers to advocates. In December 30 matches in 30 days is our goal to not only brighten a child's holidays but their future as well.

Mentors come from all sectors including business, high school students, retirees, homemakers, all work on-to-one basis with children who would benefit from the support and encouragement of a Mentor, someone who can help them reach their true potential.

Giving a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters is the greatest gift you can give! Your donation will be put to immediate use in supporting one of today's most-effective youth-mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters and the money raised will be used locally to continue making a difference in a child's life through mentoring in this community.

Your financial support allows us to provide careful screening and matching of volunteers with children, as well as the ongoing professional management needed to keep the mentoring relationships going strong, we hope, until the child graduates high school. Your donation is an investment in the people, systems, and resources that allow us to create and support matches between children facing adversity and caring adult mentors. We hold ourselves accountable to our donors by regularly measuring the impact of our work and by being financially accountable. 90% of funds go towards program expenses. With over 200 matches in Yorkton and Area annually and over 100 children on waiting list your support of mentoring is needed. The cost per match is $1500 which includes match supports such as casework for screening, training of volunteers plus ongoing match supports and resources for our matches.

Studies show that our mentoring services help kids stay in school, and this can eventually mean a reduction in poverty and unemployment. Mentoring helps kids avoid risky behaviour such as bullying, which can lead to safer schools and neighbourhoods. And mentoring helps kids learn the importance of helping others, growing up to be more connected to their community and to be civic-minded adults.

We offer many mentoring programs including the Traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters matches, In-School Mentoring and Teen Mentoring, Life Skills, Big Bunch monthly group activity, our Summer Camp and Kids N Kops Program. So whether you have only one hour a week, a few hours a month or want to help in any way we are here. We will provide training and supports for our new group mentoring programs that take a commitment of one hour a week for seven weeks:

Go Girls is a mentor-lead, seven week group mentoring program that incorporates fun, educational games and activities designed to stimulate self-reflection and group discussion. Each session addresses the topics of active living, balanced eating, and feeling good. Key issues for girls participating in the program include Body Image, Self-Esteem, Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Healthy Relationships.

Game On  is a mentor-lead group, seven week mentoring program for providing boys and young men with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles.

If you would like to volunteer or make a donation we appreciate your support and hope to continue making a difference in a child's life and in our community as a whole.
