With summer on the way out and another winter ahead, many people in Saskatchewan are returning to real life - vacations are ending and the first day of school approaches.

Throughout this summer, a number of Saskatchewan organizations have been promoting safety.

Entering a more routine lifestyle, do not forget the importance safety plays in everyday life. With the summer season coming to a close, these groups would like to re-emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant about safety.

"Safety isn't something that people should forget about when their vacations are over or when the long weekend ends," said Harley Toupin, chief executive officer with the Saskatchewan Safety Council, on behalf of the Have a Safe Summer campaign partners. "Throughout the year and every day, people need to stay vigilant about safety. By planning ahead, taking necessary precautions, following safety regulations and staying alert people can greatly decrease their chance of injury or death."

"No matter the activity you choose to engage in, remember to make safety a part of it," Toupin said.

Long weekends are a time for relaxing and fun, but they are also a time of increased risk of injury and accidental death. Through autumn, Saskatchewan residents will enjoy three more long weekends: Labour Day ,Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day.

"These holidays give us the chance to spend time with friends and family, to relax and to enjoy ourselves," said Toupin. "On holiday, and on every day of the year, make safety a part of your routine. The benefits are priceless."
