War Story: The War Inside Friday, May 24, 4:50

The War Inside depicts the Battle of Ortona. Canadian regiments were pitted against the toughest German paratroopers, men who were ordered to defend the city at any cost. The Canadians fought street by street, house by house in the little Italian seaport finally taking their objective December 28, 1943. This is a film that tells a story of bravery and determination. More importantly, it tells our story because these regiments drew their members from the Canadian West.

Fight like Soldiers, Die like Children Saturday, May 25, 4:30

This film is receiving all kinds of buzz including coverage on CTV News. This documentary describes Romeo Dallaire's mission to end the use of child soldiers. It is a film where you stare into the eyes of a young boy and wonder how this could ever come to happen.

The Carbon Rush Saturday, Saturday, May 25, 11:00

Our point-of-view category includes films that tackle the most difficult of issues. In this case, the issue is climate change and the suffering caused by carbon trading around the world. It is a film for everyone interested in the environment.

Smoke Traders, Saturday, May 25, 9:00

Talk about the great debate! Some in the Mohawk community argue that they have the right to be involved in the tobacco trade because it provides a way to economic independence. Others refuse the work because they see it as illegal. This is a film that shows both sides of a controversial issue. But then that's the point of a film festival - to ask the important questions.

Life under Construction, Part One, May 25, 3:30

This film tells a story from a Regina neighbourhood termed one of the worst in Canada. A hundred and fifty young people apply to a trades program, but only ten are chosen. In order to succeed, these ten must overcome the addictions and chaos that are ruining their lives. Come and meet Geoff Leo of CBC Regina to discuss a story so close to home.

Siberian Maneater, Friday, May 24, 1:30

Siberian Maneater tells the tale of a young European family who follow their dreams to a homestead in Saskatchewan, but once they arrive they find out that the life is not what they thought it would be. I am recommending this film because it is the work of new filmmakers. I know you'll be captivated by their enthusiasm and energy.

CORVUS, Friday, May 24, 4:40

CORVUS follows an extraordinary detective as he pieces together a young woman's murder. Come and see what it is all about.
