It's movie time in Yorkton and you are invited! Our festival screenings will be held at the Gallagher Centre Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25. You'll have the opportunity to see the film and talk with the filmmaker, too. Come and share in the popcorn and enjoy the best of Canadian film.
These are my first round of picks. More to come next week.
Randy Goulden, Executive-Director, Yorkton Film Festival
Offline - Friday, 11:30
I sometimes envision that the wrong push of a computer key might blow up my computer. However, in Offline, the scenario is much worse. Kevin attempts to teach his grandmother about the World Wide Web and she accidentally deletes the internet. The results are hilarious. Come and see the humour of a creative young filmmaker.
Smarty Plants - Friday, 2:50
We at the Festival are pleased to announce that the Yorkton Horticultural Society is sponsoring the screening of Smarty Plants. This film is for everyone who loves to garden, explore the natural plant world, or perhaps both. The documentary takes a light hearted approach in showing how plants adapt to their changing environment.
Surviving the Teenage Brain - Friday, 3:50
I've often thought that the best thing about the teenage brain is that it doesn't last forever. This film explains the new perspectives on adolescent development, showing that the teenage brain has its own peculiarities and an immense power, too. This film is for everyone who has ever passed through adolescence - and perhaps for those who haven't.
Will - Saturday, 1:45
Will (David Cormican), is a paranoid and confused Canadian soldier of German descent who becomes trapped in an impact crater during WW I. He realizes he will not survive the ordeal and commits to killing a similarly trapped neighboring German soldier. This is a compelling drama that tells a real story of war.
