What has 140,000 legs and rides all over Saskatchewan? The Heart&Stroke Foundation Big Bike! The Heart and Stroke Foundation is inviting any persons or groups from across the province to join the more than 70,000 participants pedaling to help create longer, healthier lives for all Canadians.

The Big Bike is a unique opportunity to pedal alongside friends, family and colleagues on our impressive 29-person Big Bike! Don't miss out on the camaraderie of riding the Big Bike throughout your community. Not only will you have fun and get some exercise, but you'll be joining more than 100 communities all putting their hearts into helping create more survivors of heart disease and stroke.

Volunteer and community leader, Margaret Hoffman, knows all too well the devastating effects of heart disease. In 2010, she lost her mother to the disease. That same year, Margaret seized the opportunity presented by the Big Bike to not only dedicate a ride to her mom, but to also motivate and inspire a dwindling, rural community.

Margaret's home is Spruce Lake, SK. Today, it has a population of 50 people. Fuelled by her desire to ensure no one else suffers the loss of a loved one and her commitment to community building, Margaret set out to organize a team for a Big Bike, hoping it would be the spark to kindle the flame and reinvigorate an aging town. She says the town "needed something to keep people motivated and to help the community - something to look forward to."

Margaret has been a team captain for five of the six years she has participated and last year captained two teams, bringing the Big Bike to St. Walburg. Her work has helped raise more than $14,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, dollars that go towards vital, life-saving research to help ensure others avoid paying the ultimate price, like Margaret's mother did.

Now you can be involved in effecting change in your community and in helping to ensure all Canadians have more time to live, laugh and love. Help the Heart and Stroke Foundation raise awareness and funds to save lives from heart disease and stroke by rallying your team of friends, neighbours and coworkers for the Heart&Stroke Big Bike.
