Body found on bus

The RCMP has confirmed a dead woman was removed from a Greyhound bus in Yorkton September 29 in the early afternoon.

The bus had left Edmonton the previous evening headed for Winnipeg.

As with all sudden or unexpected deaths in Saskatchewan, the body was turned over to the Office of the Chief Coroner to investigate. A spokesperson for the coroner's service said an autopsy was performed in Regina and the body was released to the family.

Sgt. Rob Laurent, operations NCO for the Yorkton municipal detachment, said the autopsy revealed nothing suspicious about the death. The middle-aged woman from The Pas, Manitoba had been suffering poor health, Laurent said, and simply passed away during the night.

Ryan Lafontaine, a spokesperson for Greyhound Canada offered condolences from the bus line.

"It's a really sad thing," he said. "Our hearts really go out to her and her family."

After a short delay at the Yorkton bus depot, the bus and its remaining passengers carried on to Winnipeg.
