Bowl 4 Kids’ sake strikes big again

It cannot be understated how important Bowl 4 Kids’ Sake is to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and Area (BBBS). “It’s our annual fundraiser, it’s our 30th annual and it’s our signature one,” said Irma Van de Bon Nicol, BBBS executive director.

Big Brothers Big Sisters held its annual Bowl 4 Kids’ Sake fundraiser at Yorkton Bowl Arena Saturday and Sunday.

“The funds from it determine what kind of mentoring programs, how we can expand our mentoring programs and it influences how many children we fit throughout the year.”

Over the past several weeks bowlers have collected sponsorships and on Saturday and Sunday competed for prizes at Yorkton Bowl Arena. Van de bon Nicol was very pleased with the event although turnout was slightly dampened by the presence of the Parkland Outdoor Show and Expo.

“Normally we try to schedule for a weekend when there’s nothing else going on in Yorkton, she said. “But we’ve got 48 teams, we normally have 52, so we’re down just a little bit, but our sponsorships are above average and everything will work out in the end and there’s been lots of community support,” she said.

She added that the Melville Bowl 4 Kids’ Sake event grew this year and mentoring continues to grow in both Melville and Esterhazy where Bowl 4 Kids’ Sake goes next weekend.

Of course, the best indicator of future success is present success, and Van de bon Nicol is encouraged by the ongoing support of participants and sponsors.

“Everybody that is bowling loves the prizes,” she said. “They love the thank yous  and they love the event and they say they want to come back next year so that’s thanks to those people that are supporting those prizes.”
