Brain Injury Walk planned

The Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association is hosting its second annual Positive Steps Walk-a-thon in Yorkton on September 10.

The Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association is hosting its second annual Positive Steps Walk-a-thon in Yorkton on September 10.

The Brain Injury Association assists and advocates for people living in the province with acquired brain injuries - the number one cause of death and disability among children and youth.

"The walk is to raise awareness and money for our camps, our activities, our support groups - that kind of thing," says local coordinator Lynette Strom.

The one-hour walk, one of four in the province being held on September 10, begins at 10:30 at the Gloria Hayden Community Centre. A barbecue will follow.

The work of the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association is personal for Strom. Shortly after beginning her employment in the field, Strom learned that her own daughter suffers from a mild brain injury.
"It was difficult in that it had taken so many years to get a diagnosis for my daughter, but working in the field is amazing. Especially with the clients - you build such close bonds with them."

Strom says she is always looking for more volunteers to help with the walk or with the association's other activities. She can be contacted at 621-3744.

The top pledge earner in the province for this year's walk will receive two plane tickets donated by Westjet.

Walkers can register online at www.sbia.ca.
