World Breastfeeding Week will be marked in Yorkton following a unanimous decision of Council Monday.

"Every year, the week of October 1-7 is recognized as World Breastfeeding Week in Canada. Our Baby Friendly Initiative Working Group would like to the City of Yorkton

to recognize and support this week by signing a proclamation in support of breastfeeding families within our community," Carolee Zorn, chair of the Working Group told Council.

In terms if local activities, they will support the world program, said Zorn.

"The theme for World Breastfeeding Week this year, is "Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers". Our working group will be launching our latest project on October 1, 2013 at the Yorkton Gallagher Center. Our project this year supports breastfeeding families and their right to breastfeed in public. To support mothers breastfeeding in public, we have created life size cut outs of mothers breastfeeding their children from within our health region that we plan to place in highly visible public areas to raise awareness and support.

We would like to present this proclamation signed by our city's mayor during our event to show that the City of Yorkton supports breastfeeding families within our community," she said.
