Brodie project earns recognition

The Brodie Avenue redevelopment has garnered recognition from a major conference.

The Brodie Avenue redevelopment has garnered recognition from a major conference.

Earlier this year City Council granted approval for the Director of Planning & Engineering to make a PowerPoint presentation to the Making Cities Livable Conference in Portland, Oregon

"The presentation highlighted the transformation of Brodie Avenue from the 2010 flood to an urban park. The Director made a presentation on the Broadway - King Street Recreational Corridor project. The city also entered this project in the design exhibition portion of this conference," detailed material circulated at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

"The purpose of the Making Cities Livable movement is to enhance the well-being of inhabitants of cities and towns, strengthen community, improve social and physical health, and increase civic engagement by reshaping the built environment of our cities, suburbs and towns. This is a conference that is attended by over three hundred delegates from around the world

"The city received a Design Exhibit Certificate in recognition of its contribution of the Broadway-King Street project. To be accepted into the exhibit program is highly competitive so this certificate is not lightly given by the Awards Committee. The Committee was impressed by the fact that while this is a modest project in design terms, it transformed the site of a disastrous event into a healthy and attractive place that connects places and citizens."
