The work done on the Brodie Avenue project will be taken to an international audience.
"The Director of Planning & Engineering made a PowerPoint presentation to the Program Committee on Making Cities Livable. The presentation highlighted the transformation of Brodie Avenue from the 2010 flood to an urban park. The Committee recently notified the Director that they accepted the Broadway - King Street Recreational Corridor presentation for their June 2013 conference," detailed a report to the regular Monday meeting of Yorkton Council.
"The purpose of the Making Cities Livable movement is to enhance the well-being of inhabitants of cities and towns, strengthen community, improve social and physical health, and increase civic engagement by reshaping the built environment of our cities, suburbs and towns."
When asked what Yorkton might gain from the experience Gord Shaw, Director of Planning and Engineering with the City suggested a key would be exposure.
"One tangible that comes about, this puts Yorkton on the map (in terms of urban design)," he offered, adding the conference is one which attracts international delegates.
Funding for Shaw's trip will be accommodated through the travel budget.
