The storm water holding pond along Brodie Street is progressing with Yorkton Council approving digging of the pond at a tendered cost of $311,800.
Three tenders were received with the lowest coming from Curtis Construction Ltd. at $311,800.
"The depth of the pond is approximately two metres or approximately seven feet from the existing elevation. This pond will be a dry pond except for when storm events occur.
The pond will detain run-off so that it doesn't overwhelm the downstream drainage network," detailed a report circulated to Council Monday.
"This pond is one component of many designed to deal with storm water management in the western half of the city. Other upgrades will occur in the next ten years to mitigate as much as possible the amount of flooding that has historically occurred in Yorkton. Administration is working with Associated Engineering to prepare the next scope of work in diverting storm water away from the downtown and into areas where it will not negatively affect the city."
The work is part of an overall project budget of $2,228,430, which includes purchase of land and building demolition of $1,200,000, and contingency and engineering allotment of $266,630.
Funding for this project will be resolved through the 2012 budget process and involves an internal loan and capital funding.
