At the present time there is no resident bus at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. The bus failed its safety inspection in May of 2013, and has been off the road since that time. The nursing home and the Wellness Centre have tried to make do with city transit since that time, but that is not working well for residents and Wellness Centre clients.

A new bus has a purchase price of approximately $100,000 and we will have to raise the funds to purchase it. This is not something the government will fund. We would like to have the bus in place by this summer.

Kristy Cmoc, Director of Marketing for SecurTek and Brittany Crow, President of SecurTek Pioneers, commented that there was instant support from the Pioneers for assisting the bus purchase. "We could all relate to the mobility challenges of seniors, said Ms. Cmoc, "whether it's our own parents or grandparents, or a friend, we could all relate to the difficulty people in wheelchairs or those with limited mobility have when they try to get around the community."

The bus will be used for a wide range of purposes, all of which enhance the quality of life of the residents in the nursing home and individuals who use the day wellness program. Twice a week the bus is used for the Day Wellness program, it picks up and drops off participants. Additionally the bus is used for a variety of recreational outings for residents throughout the year; everything from supper in the field to going to a baseball game.

SecurTek Pioneers Donate $5,000 and Kick-off the Campaign for a new Resident Bus for the Yorkton & District Nursing Home.
