A new business subdivision was approved by the passing of a bylaw by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday.
The proposed plan is for Phase I of the Highway Commercial subdivision in the lands surrounding the Tourism Yorkton/Chamber of Commerce building on Highway 9 South.
"Phase I consists of five new vacant lots," explained Michael Eger, Planner with the City.
Under Naming of Civic Property and Development Areas policy, Council must provide approval for the name of the subdivision and for the proposed streets within it.
"The theme of the subdivision revolves around the CN and CP rail lines, which have played a significant role in both the historical and current Yorkton economy," said Eger.
"The proposed name for the development is the "Roundhouse Commercial" subdivision - this pays homage to the Y-shaped spur line which was used by CP in 1910 to turn trains around to either head east or west from Yorkton."
Street names within the Division include Railway Drive, Pacific Way and National Street.
