Harry Ramsbottom, the Foundation's Yorkton Campaign Co-coordinator and Linda Thauberger-Smith, Specialist in Community Fundraising, recruit volunteers at the Heart and Stroke Heart Rally at the Parkland Mall on January 19.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) rallied January 19 to attract new volunteers and promote healthy lifestyles. Optimistic volunteers are needed to collect donations for research and education aimed at giving Canadians a chance at a healthier life.

The HAS has divided Yorkton into nine different zones and 12 canvassers are needed in each zone. Each canvasser gets his own kit consisting of pamphlets, a badge for identification, envelopes and a receipt book. The responsibility of each canvasser is to go door to door asking for donations.

"We really like to show appreciation for our volunteers," said Linda Thauberger-Smith. Linda, one of the rally organizers, stressed the importance of informing the community about the cause regardless of the amount of donations given. "We can never have enough volunteers," she added. The fundraising will be on throughout the month of February and donations are also accepted online. The campaign is not funded by anyone, therefore, all donations are guaranteed to go to the cause.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is Canada's most trusted authority on heart disease and stroke, it consists of dedicated researchers and volunteers who are devoted to saving lives.
