Canora connected to perv busts

The town of Canora has been named in a child sexual exploitation task force sting.

The town of Canora has been named in a child sexual exploitation task force sting.

At a press conference in Regina Thursday, Regina Police Service Staff Sergeant Ron Weir, a member of the task force, said 13 warrants had been executed in Biggar, Canora, Prince Albert, Regina, Swift Current and Saskatoon resulting in 10 arrests and 21 charges being laid.

"Several investigations are ongoing with additional arrests and charges pending," Weir said.

Saskatoon Police Service Detective Sergeant Darren Parisien, the lead coordinator of the project, named Operation Snapshot, would not say how Canora was connected.

"I believe it's in relation to an ongoing investigation," Parisien told Yorkton This Week. "At this time no charges or arrests have been made in Canora or area."

Operation Snapshot was an intensive effort that involved 14 partner police agencies in three provinces and two territories.

In total, 21 people have been arrested and 30 charges have been laid against 16 suspects in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Investigators confiscated more than 100 computers and 1,000 discs containing hundreds of thousands of pornographic images of children ranging in age from infants to 12-year-olds.

One investigation in Saskatoon resulted in the rescue of a young boy.

Operation Snapshot is an initiative of the RCMP's Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (CPCMEC).
