There will likely be no election for Catholic school trustees on October 24. As of September 19 when nominations closed, only nine people had come forward for the 10 board positions.
On September 20, the nine candidates were elected by acclamation to fill the four Yorkton city, three Melville city and one each of Yorkton rural and Melville rural chairs. Christ the Teacher School Division has issued a Notice of Call for Further Nominations to fill the Theodore and rural subdivision seat.
The second call for nominations closes October 3.
"If at that point there's no one who comes forth, the board will have to organize a by-election," said Wilf Hotsko, the division's secretary-treasurer and returning officer.
Hotsko added it's unlikely that will end up being necessary.
"I think someone will come forth," he said.
Despite the acclamation, there will be a couple of new faces and a shift in one of the subdivisions.
Gone are Eugene Fedorowich and Kevin Lubiniecki, both trustees from City of Yorkton. One of those seats will be filled by Dwayne Todas. Todas has served previously as a trustee.
Pat Zaryski, who previously represented the Yorkton rural subdivision on the last board will take over the other City of Yorkton seat. She will be replaced by Dwight Guy. Guy is a father of seven children and an active member of St. Gerard's parish.
Re-elected are Doreen Rathgeber and Jerome Niezgoda for City of Yorkton, Lisa Rathgeber, Dell Killick and Theresa Wilson for City of Melville and Angie Rogalski for Yorkton rural.
Rogalski, the current chair of the board
Electing a new chair and co-chair will be the first order of business for the new board at its organizational meeting October 26.
Trustee profiles and photos will appear in the October 3 edition of Yorkton This Week.
