The Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble held its inaugural New Year’s Eve feast on Saturday at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall. Malanka, New Year’s Eve, is a Ukrainian folk holiday usually celebrated on January 13th in accordance with the Julian calendar. Malanka commemorates the feast day of St. Melania. As the holiday symbolizes spring’s release from the captivity of winter, it was fitting for the young dancers to welcome the audience.
