A Canada 150 concert was held on the evening of Dec. 10 at the Anne Portnuff Theatre in Yorkton. The event included performances by the Yorkton Community Adult Band, included an arrangement of ‘Hockey Night In Canada’, and the Yorkton Community Choir with a numbers of songs included Ian Tyson’s ‘Four Strong Winds’. Local Air Force, Army, and Navy cadets were flag bearers for the celebration which was rounded out by First Nations traditional singers and dancers as well as a four-member RCMP contingent in their formal dress red serge. Proceeds from the evening are destined to help revitalize the Theatre at Yorkton Regional High School. The main project already has raised $300 thousand dollars in corporate and individual donations, which will replace the 50 year old seats but the effort continues in order to upgrade lighting, curtains and backdrops.
