Yorkton Council unanimously declared Sept. 14 as Canadian Federation of University Women's Day in the city.
"The Canadian Federation of University Women, (CFUW) Yorkton Club is an organization of women university graduates in the Yorkton area. For over six decades we have actively participated in public affairs through education, advocacy and action," detailed a letter circulated to Council Monday from the CFUW Yorkton branch.
"We are a member of our provincial body, CFUW-Saskatchewan Council, and affiliated with our national body, the Canadian Federation of University Women, a non-partisan, non-profit, self-funded bilingual organization with members in all provinces of Canada. CFUW is also a member of the International Federation of University Women."
Bilkies McKen, president of the local club told Council, "The government of Saskatchewan will be proclaiming Saturday, September 14, 2013, as Canadian Federation of University Women's Day. The Canadian Federation of University Women Yorkton, would be most appreciative if you would declare September 14, 2013, Canadian Federation of University Women's Day in Yorkton."
To mark the day the CFUW will be holding an event to mark the day.
"On Saturday, Sept, 14, 2013, the Canadian Federation of University of Women, Yorkton, will host a reception at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery," said McKen, adding it will serve as "an ideal opportunity to help raise awareness of our organization and it commitments."
