The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that George Gallagher and Dick DeRyk will be inducted as Life Members of the Yorkton Chamber at the next Chamber Business Lunch Thursday, September 14 at the Ramada Yorkton.
George Gallagher began working at CJGX in 1947 and in 1956, became a partner in the ownership of the station. George was active in a number of industry associations as well as the community at large. In addition to volunteering in a number of local service clubs, he served as City Alderman in 1961 and 1962
As a co-founder of Yorkton This Week in 1975, Dick DeRyk served as its Editor until 1987. An entrepreneur, he has established and run a number of businesses in Yorkton. He has served on the Board of a number of community organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce. He has also served in a number of provincial organizations. He was a Councillor for the Yorkton City for a total of 13 years.

According to the Chamber’s Constitution, Honourary Life Member Awards are presented to “those persons who have distinguished themselves by meritorious or public service. Life Membership shall include all the privileges of active membership, except that of holding office, with the exemption from paying dues.” Such Life Membership shall be granted to the individual and not the company.”
The first Life Memberships were granted in 1969. The most recent inductees include Allan Bailey in 2013; Ray Malinowski in 2014; Kathy Connors and Dr. Fay Myers in 2015; and Dave Farrell and Tom Seeley in 2016.
The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is “the voice of business in Yorkton”. It is a membership based organization representing over 475 businesses and organizations in Yorkton and District. Its Mission is “to promote and advance the interests and growth of members and businesses in Yorkton and District”.
