Sexual assault

A 65-year-old Theodore man remains in custody on charges related to an alleged sexual assault that occurred 25 years ago.

Ernest Rist was arrested at his residence in Theodore on October 3 following a six-month investigation of a complaint Yorkton RCMP received in April.

A male reported to police he had met Rist in 1989, when he was less than 12 years old at a Yorkton residence that many children allegedly frequented.

Rist made his first court appearance October 5 on one count of sexual assault and was remanded until October 8. That appearance was also adjourned. His next appearance is scheduled for Oct. 29.

Although charges have been laid in this complaint, the investigation remains open as police suspect there may be other victims as is frequently true in these kinds of cases.

The RCMP are encouraging anyone with information to come forward by calling 306-786-2400 or by contacting Crime Stoppers.
