On Saturday, July 7 in the community of Preeceville, SK, RCMP received a call at approximately 12:20 p.m. to attend to the Preeceville School grounds to investigate a collision involving an eight-year-old boy and a parade float vehicle.
The incident occurred following the parade when the vehicle was at the school grounds and was traveling at an extremely slow speed (2-3 km/hr). There were three adults and the eight-year-old on the float at the time of the incident. The child jumped from the float at the front of the trailer and was then run over by the wheels of the trailer.
Two nurses were on another float and immediately attended to the injured child. EMS also attended and transported the injured child to the Preeceville Hospital. The child passed away a short time later at the hospital.
As part of the investigation, RCMP have seized both the trailer and truck that were involved in this incident.
Foul play is not suspected in this death and the incident is not being treated as suspicious. The eight-year-old is from Prince Albert, SK.
A single motor vehicle rollover was reported to Esterhazy RCMP at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. The accident occurred approximately 2.5 miles east of Tantallon, SK on the Tantallon grid. The vehicle, a grey Chevrolet Cobalt, had 5 occupants inside at the time of the accident. A 47-year-old New Brunswick male is deceased and the other four occupants sustained injuries.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident.
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
