A 37-year-old British Columbia man accused of sexually assaulting a minor has been released on bail.
Robert William Paterson appeared in Yorkton court Monday on one count of sexual assault, one count of common assault and two counts of uttering threats.
According to the RCMP, Paterson sexually assaulted one youth, assaulted another and uttered threats to both.
Police first became aware of the incident, which took place in a public place, on March 6. The ensuing investigation led to charges being laid and Paterson was arrested March 13.
In court March 16, following consultation by telephone with Michael Bolton, a B.C. defence lawyer, and Paterson’s father who was present in court, the Crown, represented by Darryl Bode consented to his release on $500 bail and conditions.
In addition to keeping the peace and being of good behaviour, Paterson must live at an approved residence, have no contact with the individuals named in the complaint, not attend any public place where children under the age of 16 are regularly present and not engage in employment that involves children under 16.
Bode applied for and Judge Patrick Koskie ordered a publication ban on any information that could identify the victims.
The judge scheduled April 30 for Paterson’s next court appearance.
