Missoula Children's Theatre is in Yorkton this week preparing for the production of "The Wizard Of Oz" on Saturday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Yorkton Regional High School. The production of the much-loved tale of Dorothy, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tinman on their quest to see the Wizard of Oz will involve dozens of local children, under the expert direction of the MCT team. This outstanding theatre group provides a unique opportunity for local children to learn to work as group while excelling as an individual.
It's a huge undertaking to audition, rehearse, and prepare the entire production in less than a week. While many communities don't have the opportunity for a long-term program for performing arts for children, "this is only one week, and it is well worth the effort!" says Mike Bloom, one of the MCT team. "We'd like to encourage everyone to come out!"
Jessica-Lynne Rigby, the other MCT team member, agrees. "Missoula Children's Theatre helps with confidence, public speaking, and time management, because you have to still get your homework done while you are doing all the other stuff all at once. It lets you know just how much you can do in a short time!"
The mission statement of Missoula Children's Theatre is "the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts", and to achieve this goal, Missoula goes to all 50 of the United States, two territories, four provinces, and 17 countries. 47 teams are touring all year.
"It's such an exciting opportunity for children to experience the challenges and thrills of being part of a live stage performance. It will be something that they will remember their entire lives." commented Debbie Hayward, performing arts coordinator for the Yorkton Arts Council. "And don't we all love the story of the Wizard of Oz?"
The performance takes place on Saturday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Yorkton Regional High School. Tickets are available at the Yorkton Arts Council, Welcome Home Floral and Gift Shop, and at the door.
Everyone is welcome to the performance!
