CIBC donates $12.5K to college

CIBC has added its name to a growing list of supporters of Parkland College's new Trades and Technology Centre.

In an announcement June 5, Candace Tendler, CIBC Yorkton branch manager, said her bank is proud to contribute $12,500 to the construction of the new facility.

At CIBC, we're committed to helping kids and young adults build a better future by providing increased access to education opportunities," she said.

William Litchfield, the college's director of advancement said the donation goes beyond just the dollars.

"This is a significant gift, and one that's supported by the branch and went through their national review committee, so to have that exposure and CIBC's dedication to this type of project, it's significant both for the college and the community," he said.

Both individuals commented on the centre's impact on keeping youth in the area by allowing them to develop locally in-demand skills and thereby compete for the growing number of well-paying jobs.

The CIBC donation is the latest contribution to the college's capital campaign to raise $5 million, its cost-sharing requirement in a partnership with the City of Yorkton, the Parkland region and the Province. With CIBC's cheque, Litchfield said, the campaign is almost halfway to its goal.

The Trades and Technology Centre will have the capacity to graduate 350 skilled workers and upgrade 2,000 workers' skills annually.
