Yorkton unanimously adopted the Yorkton Municipal Development Plan at its regular meeting Monday, but were also quick to point out the document is only a guideline and is not binding on the City.
"The Yorkton airport Authority made a presentation to City Council in late 2010, on a long-term development plan for the airport. At that time, City Council received and filed the plan as information," detailed a report circulated to Council Monday.
"This matter was discussed at the May 19, 2011, Airport Authority meeting and a motion was made to request City Council adopt the development plan."
"The development plan is for a period of five to twenty-five years. It was prepared by a consultant who has prepared several airport plans throughout North America (Pryde Schropp McComb Inc.) The plan outlines how the airport could grow over this time period and identifies a capital program."
There is a price tag attached to the proposed work;
Runway 03-21 rehabilitation $3,196,089.84
Runway 12-30 reconstruction $5,764,995.06
Taxiway Alpha and Bravo rehabilitation $1,683,203.83
New Apron and Taxiway development $1,523,884.25
Landside Roads and Site services $2,330,377.00
Airport Terminal Building $791,760.00
Airport Maintenance Garage $1,647,625.00
The total value of the upgrades would be $16,937,934.98
"The Airport Authority will need to review and prepare a capital plan before the end of the third quarter to determine priorities for the next five years and funding sources. This will be presented to City Council later this year," explained the report.
Councillor Ross Fisher, who has previously sat on the Airport Authority, pointed out the document is "a plan," but added the expenditures as outlined would only occur if funding sources outside of the City could be accessed.
