Yorkton Council proclaimed two weeks during its regular meeting Monday.
Jessica Spearey and Gabriella Litke spoke to Council on behalf of Girl Guides and Scouts Canada.
"February 22 is a very important day for us and is known as Thinking Day. This is the birthday of our founding fathers, Lord and Lady Baden Powell. At this time of year our groups get together for a special celebration to honour this special day," said Spearey.
"As in past years, we would like to approach City Council and humbly request the week of Thinking Day, February 17 - 23, 2013 be awarded the title of Girl Scout week in Yorkton. We also request permission to have a flag raising ceremony at City Hall on February 17, 2013 so our club flags may be flown for that full week in honour of this special time for our Organizations," added Litke.
Council was unanimous in proclaiming the work.
Council also proclaimed the week of Feb. 17 - 23 as Kinsmen and Kinette Week in the city.
"We also would like to have February 20, 2013, declared Kinsmen and Kinette day," added Kinsmen representative Lee Pawliw.
Pawliw said locally Kinsmen have donated "$4 million back to the community."
Sherry Slusarchuk with Kinettes said they have two major events upcoming. Their Catch & Release will be held Feb. 14, with proceeds to the 37th Annual Telemiracle March 2 and 3.
The Kinettes will also hold its Ladies Night in March, she said.
