City moves to collect taxes

The City of Yorkton is moving forward in the process to collect taxes on a number of properties in the city under the requirements of the Tax Enforcement Act. The properties are those which have arrears outstanding from 2009 and earlier.

The properties are those which have arrears outstanding from 2009 and earlier.

The total outstanding tax in arrears on the properties is $125,400. including the city and school portions of property tax. The total tax roll annually is about $21 million.

Monday Yorkton City Council unanimously supported the proceedings at its regular meeting of Yorkton Council.

If the arrears are not paid by Jan. 11, 2011, a tax lien will be registered on the property, after providing 60-days notice by way of advertisement in the local newspaper.
