The City of Yorkton will be submitting a five-yea capital plan to the federal government as part of the Gas Tax Fund requirement.

“The City of Yorkton has been receiving annual funding from the Gas Tax Fund since the 2006 fiscal year,” reported Shannon Bell, Director of Finance at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

This funding has been used on projects such as the Highway #9 Intersection Improvements (2006 – 2007), Street Light Improvements (2007 – 2008 – 2009), Broadway and Bradbrooke Reconstruction (2010 – 2011) and Storm Water Management project (Drainage project), she explained.

“We receive approximately $900,000 from this Federal grant which goes toward the Capital Budget,” said Bell.

Under the Municipal Gas Tax Fund Agreement (MGTFA), that has been signed and approved by the City of Yorkton, the City is required to provide the Province with a five-year Capital Plan.

“A five-year Capital Plan – 2013 to 2017 was originally presented to Council on April 2, 2012 through a Strategic Planning Meeting and has now been updated for the 2015 – 2019 years. The original plan was updated by removing projects that have been completed and by adding current projects on the go,” said Bell.

“Even though the five-year Capital Plan needs to be approved by Council, Administration will continue to revise on an annual basis as priorities and costs are determined.”
