Yorkton Council has approved the Rural Municipality of Orkney's plan to put a new culvert under York Lake Road.
The RM of Orkney provided the City a drainage plan to show where the installation of a culvert may affect the city's municipal road right-of-way, explained Gord Shaw, Director of Planning & Engineering with the City.
The subject area is one mile south of Queen Street on York Lake Road. The proposal is to install a culvert at this location to improve drainage in the rural municipality. The water will drain along the rural municipality's road ditches and eventually make its way to Yorkton Creek. These improvements should help rural property owners in this area, detailed a report circulated to Council.
Administration has reviewed the proposed installation of culverts in this area of the rural municipality. It does not deem them to significantly impact either property within the city or the long term operation of the Yorkton Creek. It believes, therefore, that this proposed work can be completed by the RM of Orkney, said Shaw.
Yorkton Council's support was unanimous.
