The City of Yorkton will be participating with the National Research Council Canada for study on Particulate Transport and Accumulation in storm water Ponds.
"This research will benefit the municipality in understanding particle transport and accumulation in storm water ponds. The benefit is that a better understanding will be created to support operations and maintenance decisions on the storm water ponds the city is creating or will create in the next five to ten years. The National Research Council proposes to undertake a review of storm water pond performance to establish a framework for assessing the adequacy of a computer model to predict particulate transport and accumulation in storm water wet detention ponds. This will be a six month study commencing in 2012," detailed a report circulated at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
The city's obligation to this study is time for administration to participate in the research as well as $3,437.50 in funding, explained Gord Shaw, Director of Planning & Engineering with the City.
NRC is providing the majority of funding for this study with contributions from other municipalities. Several municipalities throughout Saskatchewan are involved in this study.
