City updates freedom of information

Yorkton Council moved Monday to streamline local authority in terms of information and protection of privacy.

Yorkton Council moved Monday to streamline local authority in terms of information and protection of privacy.

"At the 2014 SUMA Convention a presentation regarding The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, brought to Administration's attention that the Mayor of the municipality is the 'head' as referenced in that act and further that the municipality may designate any individual as the 'head'," explained Kim Durdin, Assistant City Clerk.

"The duties required of the 'head' are Administrative and are legislated within the Act."

The City of Yorkton has a policy regarding Local Authority Freedom of Information and

Protection of Privacy needed to be amended to Define who the 'head' is, explained Durdin. Also within that policy the word "Within" needed to be inserted in order to

meet the requirements of the Act.

City Administration recommenced the changes as outlined, and Council was unanimous in its support.
