Yorkton Council is moving to close a portion of the Highway 9 Right-of-way for inclusion in the City Cemetery.
"A formal subdivision is required to accommodate expansion of the City cemetery. There are existing burial plots located outside of the current cemetery boundary within a portion of Highway 9 right-of-way that was created for widening in 1962. In order for the subdivision to proceed, the affected portion of road plan will need to be permanently closed by way of Council Bylaw," explained City Planner Michael Eger at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
Planning Services is of the opinion that the proposed closure will not have a negative impact on transportation infrastructure and is in favour of the proposed parcel configuration, stated the report presented.
Yorkton Council unanimously supported first reading of the bylaw, and authorized Administration to proceed with the Public Notice Process.
