Spring Clean Up Week has been designated by Yorkton Council for the week of May 6-11.
It has been customary to declare a residential clean up week to encourage residents of the City of Yorkton to clean up their properties to help improve the image and appeal of our community," explained Michael Buchholzer Environmental Services Director with the City at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
"To encourage participation, City Council has previously waived the Landfill tipping fees for residential garbage hauled in by City residents by car, half-ton truck or single axle utility trailer. This campaign would strictly apply to schools and City of Yorkton residents hauling in their own refuse," detailed a report circulated at the meeting.
"This program has been well received by the residents of Yorkton with 829 qualifying loads taking advantage of Residential Spring Clean Up Week. An annual average of approximately 622 cars, vans, sport utility, half/quarter ton trucks, or single axle trailers utilized the service over the past five years. Normal annual average during this time period would be approximately 90 residential loads with qualifying vehicles."
