It’s hard to really tell when the fundraising starts and when it stops, but it is safe to say the bulk of the Brayden Ottenbreit’s Close Cuts for Cancer 2016 campaign is in the bank.
The main event, of course, is the folks who go out and get pledges toward cancer research and then in one giant shaving fest the last Saturday in May get their hair lopped off, a tradition that started 19 years ago when the young Brayden was going through radiation treatment and dad Greg and some others shaved in solidarity. The effort this year raised around $25,000.
The multitude of other fundraisers, including barbecues and various other events throughout May and June pulled in about the same for local initiatives including expanding palliative care.
The last of these was a Family Fun Day hosted by Good Spirit Air/Miccar Aerial at the airport June 25. The party also served as an anniversary celebration for 10 years of Good Spirit passenger service and 20 years of Miccar agricultural air services.
There actually will be one more Close Cuts event this summer, a pancake breakfast at Good Spirit Lake.
