Yorkton Co-op is helping to feed Yorkton’s youth.
During the month of December, Yorkton Co-op employees spring into action asking customers and members if they would like to purchase a “Good Buy To Hunger” bag in support of The Soup Haven Lunch Program Inc.
The Soup Haven Lunch Program Inc. provides more than 200 lunches every school day to kids who come to school without one. “It’s a known fact that kids learn better when they’re not hungry” says Marilyn Dyck, Executive Director of The Soup Haven. “This donation is a tremendous boost for us, and it helps us get through much of the year with essential healthy meals for the kids”, continued Marilyn.
Yorkton Co-op has had a strong relationship with The Soup Haven for more than 10 years, by providing Good Buy To Hunger bags throughout the year, and 50 loaves of fresh bread every Monday during school weeks. Yorkton Co-op has also been providing all of the food as well as the servers for a traditional Christmas dinner in December. “Yorkton Co-op has always been about community, and this program gives our employees and members an opportunity to participate” said Darcy Napady, Petroleum Division Manager.
Yorkton Co-op matches all donations up to $5,000 during the month of December and this program has generated more than $41,000 towards The Soup Haven Lunch Program Inc. during the past 2 years.
