A 34-year-old Yorkton man has been sentenced to two years in prison following a guilty plea for trafficking cocaine.
Tyson Blahey was picked up near Theodore on June 18 in a traffic stop.
A subsequent search of a Yorkton residence turned up 48 grams of cocaine.
At the time of his arrest, Blahey was already on probation for cocaine trafficking. In October 2013, he pleaded guilty to trafficking after being caught with 56 grams of coke. He received one year in prison and two years probation for that offence.
Federal prosecutor Shane Wagner said the two-year sentence on the current charge was a direct result of the previous conviction and breach of probation.
“There was no mandatory minimum, but the case law is really harsh on cocaine trafficking, even for small amounts,” Wagner said.
A co-accused in the case, 34-year-old Michelle Hamelin, is free on conditions and scheduled to appear in court again July 20
