Parkland College students stand to benefit from the most successful Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic in the college's history.
Preliminary estimates show that the seventh annual golf tournament, held on June 22 at Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton, raised over $25,600 for the Parkland College scholarship fund.
"We are thrilled that this year's event was such a success," said Dollars for Scholars co-chair Brendan Wagner. "Businesses and individuals in the Parkland region deserve so much credit for stepping up and supporting our students."
The proceeds from the tournament contribute significantly to the college's scholarship initiative. In the 2011-12 academic year, Parkland College awarded $107,000 in scholarships, exceeding $100,000 in awards for the first time.
"Those scholarships make a huge difference to a lot of our students. As the golf tournament grows, it will give more students the opportunity to stay and study close to home," Wagner said.
The Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic would not be possible without generous contributions from hundreds of community supporters, volunteers, and sponsors. Media sponsors GX94 and Fox FM, banquet sponsor R H Electric Ltd., and Platinum sponsor RBC Financial Group played major roles in the success of the tournament.
Parkland College also thanks the 18 Gold Sponsors, 36 Silver sponsors, 153 Bronze sponsors, and three hole-in-one sponsors for their donations of cash and prizes.
Nearly 100 golfers participated in this year's tournament, supporting the scholarship fund with their entry fees.
The partnership between Parkland College and Deer Park Golf Course will continue next year. The eighth annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic is scheduled for June 21, 2013, at Deer Park Golf Course.
