Collision closes #16 near Rokeby

Highway 16 was closed for an afternoon due to a fatal accident. On July 20, 2017 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Yorkton Rural Detachment members were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision east of Rokeby, SK. on Hwy 16.

On July 20, 2017 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Yorkton Rural Detachment members were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision east of Rokeby, SK. on Hwy 16.
An east-bound vehicle had collided with a west-bound vehicle. The two occupants in the east-bound vehicle – an 80-year-old male and a 78-year-old female, both from Langenburg, SK. – were deceased at the scene. Their
names are not being released at this time.
The adult male driver and lone occupant of the second vehicle was airlifted to hospital by STARS ambulance with serious injuries.
The highway was closed on the afternoon of the 20th, but was reopened by 6:37 a.m. the next morning.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing with assistance from an RCMP collision reconstructionist and the Provincial Coroner’s Office. Also attending the scene and providing assistance were Yorkton EMS, Yorkton Fire Department, Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure as well as Saltcoats Volunteer Fire.
