In October, the Client and Family Centred Care (CFCC) Steering Committee released four videos based on the Core Concepts of client and family centred care: dignity and respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration. The videos were created by the committee to be used as an education and awareness tool by Sunrise staff and the public.
The CFCC Steering Committee is comprised of client and family representatives from across the region and Sunrise staff members who expressed interest in becoming involved in helping to improve care for the clients of Sunrise Health Region.
The production of the videos was made possible after the group received the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses Innovators Grant in 2014. “We created the videos to help increase understanding of client and family centred care, both for health care workers and clients using our health care system,” said Amber Chepil who is a Client & Family Advisor on the CFCC Steering Committee. “The grant made it possible for us to do this.”
The CFCC Steering Committee and Sunrise Health Region want to engage as many staff as possible with these videos. “Telling the client and family story is a way to touch on the emotions of the staff, so that they can see the importance of providing care in partnership with the client and family,” said Roxanne Franklin, Clinical Instructor for Sunrise Health Region and member of the CFCC Steering Committee.
“As well, we wanted to bring awareness of the CFCC concepts to the public,” added Franklin. “The intent is to help the client and their family to be aware of their role in health care, that they are a valued team member, and that we respect what they tell us.”
