Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney told Council Monday the City handled the recent rain flood event quite well.

"Our experience in 2010 served us very well this time," Maloney told the regular meeting of Council Monday.

Maloney said City staff did yeoman's service through the flooding.

"We really want to pat our public works staff on the back," he said.

That said, there were many in the city affected by the water.

Maloney said after declaring a State-of-Emergency in the city, an emergency centre was established .

"Staff handled hundreds of calls," he said, covering instances of both seepage and sewer back-up damage.

Maloney said recent efforts by the City to deal with run-off in Yorkton, in particular new retention ponds "performed admirably."

To-date, 620 Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) forms "have been picked up at City Hall," said Maloney.

For those needing help with their PDAP applications, a provincial Flood Recovery Centre will be at the Gallagher Centre July 18 to 20, added the Mayor.
