The Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) along with its member Arts Council, the Yorkton Arts Council are proud to present Inti-Illimani in concert. The performance will be part of the 2011/2012 Stars for Saskatchewan series. For over four decades, Inti-Illimani has intoxicated audiences around the world. In their homeland of Chile and greater Latin America, they are a veritable institution, a cultural icon famous for their unique poetic and socio-political history. Their music, wedded in traditional Latin American roots, captures at once the very personal colors of their experiences while simultaneously appealing to the universal in us all. They have performed in over a dozen countries worldwide, bringing with them timeless themes and an inclusive spirit which unites us in our common humanity. Playing on more than 30 wind, string and percussion instruments, Inti-Illimani's compositions are a treasure for the human spirit. Their mellifluous synthesis of instruments and vocals captures those secret places in our hearts, journeying us out of the mundane into a respite for the soul. Sacred areas, colorful carnivals, daily lives, love lost and found again, vistas, defeats and triumphs all play out in the extraordinary cultural mural that is an Inti-Illimani performance. OSAC annually presents over 300 live community and school performances, attended by a total audience of approximately 75,000. This is possible because of a dedicated network of volunteers committed to making culture an integral part of Saskatchewan community life, and vital funding from Saskatchewan Lotteries, Saskatchewan Arts Board, and Canadian Heritage. Saskatchewan Lotteries benefits more than 12,000 sport, culture, and recreation organizations around the province. Each year 600,000 people participate in programs and from activities initiated by these organizations, over $1 billion of economic activity is generated, and 23,000 jobs are sustained. The concert is set for Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Regional High School.
