A 24-year-old Yorkton man will serve an 18-month sentence in the community for forcible confinement followed by two years of probation.

Dalin Davidson pleaded guilty to the charge in provincial court June 18. The Crown issued a stay of proceedings on a second charge of assault with a weapon.

The charges were related to a March 2011 incident in which Davidson approached a woman walking down the street and forced her into his truck, allegedly with a knife. After a few moments in the vehicle, the woman managed to get the door open and successfully fled.

The RCMP investigation was complicated by two other similar incidents that occurred around the same time. Police initially suspected Curtis Pawliw, who was arrested in April 2011 for solicitation and assault in the other two incidents. He eventually pleaded guilty to solicitation and the assault charges were dropped.

Finally, on November 13, 2014, caught up with Davidson and charged him.

Davidson’s conditional sentence order contains the statutory conditions as well as a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the first eight months.

Additionally, he must: live at an approved address; participate in assessment and personal counseling for mental health and cognitive issues; see a psychiatrist or psychologist as required by his probation officer; provide information about medications and treatment to the Court; and have no contact with the victim or attend at her residence, place of work or educational institution.

The same conditions apply to his subsequent probation order.

The judge also issued a DNA order and 10-year firearms prohibition.
