Details were announced on a new condo development for the city by Ron Skinner Realty on Monday morning.

"Catherine Street Condominiums" will be a two-building, 24-unit development erected on Catherine Street opposite St. Mary's Ukrainian Church.

The 900 square-foot, two-bedroom condominiums will cost approximately $240,000 including GST and come with no owner occupancy requirements or restrictions on tenant age. The developer believes this makes it the first unrestricted condo development in Yorkton since the 1970s.

Work on the project begins this spring and should be completed by the fall. The short turnaround time is made possible by builder Terra Developments' decision to use modular construction for the project.

"As you know, Yorkton is going through a building boom and the trades are difficult to get," said Ron Skinner. "When you buy these from a modular manufacturer, they're all pre-done. They arrive on-site, the flooring's in, the gyprock's done, it's painted out, the cabinets are in, everything is basically there."

Once the modules arrive in Yorkton, said Doug Rogers of Terra Developments, the building should be ready for occupancy within two months.

The project is not affiliated with the provincial government's Head Start on a Home program, but Head Start incentives are available for another Ron Skinner/Terra project, a development of 38 single-family houses titled Fifth Avenue Estates.
