Yorkton Council took the first steps on a discretionary use application which could see 24 new condominiums developed in the city.

The application could lead to a development consisting of two, three-storey, twelve unit apartment condominiums at 138 & 148 Catherine Street.

The property is zoned R-3 Medium Density Residential and the proposed development is listed as a Discretionary Use in the R-3 zone. The property is currently vacant.

In information circulated to Council Monday it was detailed the application was from RCM Condos.

RCM Condos pre-fabricates modular homes at its manufacturing plant at Vega, Alberta.

The main design that RCM builds is a three story, 12 unit apartment building that can easily be stratified into condo units.

The primary destination for these buildings has been to smaller rural Saskatchewan towns. We have however shifted our attention to some of the midsize centers in Saskatchewan, Yorkton being one of them. Some of the towns where they have built in are: Esterhazy, Tisdale, Moosomin, and Rocanville.

Planning Services has undertaken preliminary review of the proposed plans. It is expected that the Development will be able to comply with City requirements, Michael Eger, Planner with the City told Council Monday.

“At this time, Planning Services would like to initiate the public notice process including advertisement in the local newspaper, at City Hall and on the City website, and circulation to property owners within 75 m of the subject property,” he explained.

The application will also be referred to the Planning and Infrastructure Commission before it is brought back to Council, with additional details, for their review and decision in conjunction with the Public Hearing, said Eger.
