“The City of Yorkton was a participant in the inaugural meeting held April 15 1947 which saw the formation of the TCYHA. Randy continues to be an integral part of the future direction of the Association” adds Incoming TCYHA President Sandy Salt (Councillor, Valemount BC).
The Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association was formed in 1947 by municipalities along what is now known as Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway #16 (and Yellowhead Highway #5 in BC) to bring together a collective effort for a northwestern highway route to the west coast to be built.
The 100+ municipalities and nearly 100 corporate supporters continue to work collaboratively to address highway infrastructure issues, highway safety, economic development, and increasing tourism for the benefit of all in the Yellowhead Corridor. The TCYHA is very active in promoting the highway as a primary means of transportation for commercial and tourist travelers. That includes a hard copy travel guide (over 85,000 distributed thru Visitor Information Centers) and a website geared to travelers to help them develop their trip planning itinerary, www.yellowheadit.com.
This historical route is the most stress free, safe and economical way to travel across Western Canada; lower grade elevations, almost no road closure due to weather, and the Yellowhead Highway corridor offers a multitude of experiences, from breath-taking geographic vistas, historic sites marking the development of the west to unique modern-day amenities and attractions.
