Vopni
A Yorkton man accused of producing and possessing child pornography was back in court last week for allegedly breaching his curfew.
Karl Vopni, 49, was charged in February following a lengthy provincial Integrated Child Exploitation Unit investigation and released on a $5,000 non-cash deposit and strict conditions.
On May 5, he was again released, but this time had to put up the $5,000 in cash. The same 15 conditions apply including the 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew, not consuming or possessing alcohol or non-prescription drugs, having no contact with persons under the age of 16, not being present at any location frequented by persons under the age of 16, not possessing pornography of any kind, and a prohibition on possessing or owning any electronic device connected to the Internet.
Winter
A 50-year-old Yorkton man is back in custody following an incident at the municipal detachment of the RCMP May 5.
Michael Winter is accused of causing a disturbance, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Winter spent six months in jail last year for breaching release conditions related to marijuana trafficking charges.
In January, he pleaded guilty to some of the drug charges and was sentenced to time-served and six months probation. In addition to the disturbance, he is charged with breaching probation.
Wilson
At her trial May 25, Ashley Wilson will also face two charges of breaching release conditions.
No details of what constituted the breach were given in court May 9 as the new charges were adjourned until the trial date.
Wilson was charged in November 2015 with aggravated assault following an incident at the City Limits Inn during which another Yorkton woman received a serious injury to her face.
In March, co-accused Kendra Potzus, pleaded guilty to common assault and received a conditional discharge with 12 months probation.
Johnson and Johnson
Sentencing of two men implicated in a string of break and enters and thefts around the region between August and November 2015 has been postponed until June 30.
In March, Samuel Johnson and Mackenzie Johnson pleaded guilty to numerous charges related to the crime spree.
At that time, Judge Patrick Koskie ordered pre-sentence reports and scheduled sentencing for May 27, but the cases were brought forward because Probation Services needed more time to deal with the volume of offences.
