Culture Days is taking place September 24-26 as part of the larger Culture Week in Saskatchewan celebration.

As a lead-in to the event SaskCulture and its Culture Days partners are spearheading an action campaign called 'Show Us Your Culture' designed to get everyone involved in something creative leading up to Culture Days.

Show us Your Culture calls on people's creative skills asking them to share stories, photos and videos that express what culture means to them; catch Culture Days promotion in action; capture Saskatchewan's existing creativity with photos of the oldest thing in the yard or other captivating farm art; or create a mini-masterpiece using paper clips.

Then, participants can upload their photos to the Culture Days Flickr account and share their talents. Saskatchewan work will be featured as part of virtual Culture Days exhibitions during and following Culture Days.

"Show Us Your Culture is not only encouraging people in Saskatchewan to share their culture with others in the province," explains Laura Hale, Saskatchewan artist and Culture Days Animateur "but also with the rest of the Canada and the world. This is a great opportunity to express who we are as individuals, communities and as a province, by sharing our culture and cultural activity with others."

In addition many communities throughout Saskatchewan will be hosting Culture Days events during the week including Yorkton.

The Godfrey Dean Culture Centre and the Sports Hall of Fame are having an Open House Sunday Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m..

"The gallery is launching a documentary video we made about the native plant garden, which was re-invigorated this summer by local native plant experts Joan Wilson and Paula Meier," explained GDG director Don Stein.

The DVD will play on a loop in the lobby.

"We're also having the opening reception for our new exhibition. 'Borderlands' features very large (7 ft x 8 ft) canvasses, from 2-4 p.m.," added Stein.

In addition, The Yorkton Arts Council will be "hosting a day long coffee and tea with treats, with a display of their programs, and I believe the Film Festival is screening a 'best of' DVD in the lobby as well," said Stein.

The day locally will feature "entertainment by Emily Kohlert and friends (perhaps with her new bandmates in an 'unplugged' setting," continued Stein.

The Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is open 11 am to 5 pm with volunteers on hand to tour visitors through the displays.
