Crews are hard at work installing a large culvert on Highway 22 near its junction with Highway 47 southwest of Melville. The culvert, which is nearly five metres in diameter and 67 metres in length, will restore access to the road after heavy rains caused it to wash out in late June.
"This summer's flooding caused major disruptions to the provincial highway system," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner said. "We've been working to repair culverts, bridges and roads ever since. We understand the inconvenience residents have experienced and we appreciate your continued patience as we work to reopen this stretch of highway."
Traffic has been accommodated by a detour on area municipal roads. The repairs will cost approximately $1.7 million and are expected to be complete this fall, subject to weather.
In addition, a contract has been awarded for the repairs to Highway 2 north of Buffalo Pound, where a landslide reduced traffic to one lane. Repairs will cost about $2 million and are expected to be completed before the end of the construction season.
